Paging file on hyper-v guest

Nothing beats a measurable baseline. Thanks, Michael. Hi, I presume your artcile is aimed at non-clustered environments and not using shared storage? Hi, if I follow the article I finally have a 2 page file.

In my case, one of D partition of 12Go and one on C partition of 16Mo. How do you know that Windows use the D one by default? Because its size is more important? Your email address will not be published. I only have 7. That should help. Still, if there is no paging going on while the server is doing its serving thing, it might be better to put files that would speed up the served application on the additional spindle or SSD.

I've found when using Hyper-V Replication, you can save a lot of bandwidth by putting the pagefile in a dedicated VHD, then exclude that vhd from replication. If the host is paging there is a real problem going on. I was looking into this as well, and cant seem to find an agreed Consensus. In Server there is Active Memory Dump feature that allows for the host OS to be installed on a storage device that is smaller than the amount of physical RAM available.

To date we have been turning off system management of the swap file and hard coding the file size to MB in smaller settings and MB in larger settings.

I was wondering what you guys and gals use as a best practice for configuring page files on VMs? Then there won't be any issues starting because it does have a page file. It just means that if there is hard paging occurring, it will slow down the system. Do you agree with the thought of putting the individual VM's own pagefiles on a separate volume and not replicating it? What then happens if you fail over to the replicated VM?

This allows you to deselect that paging file virtual hard disk from replication, thus saving needless bandwidth. Microsoft has published a support article for when configuring a page file on a SCSI drive fails on Generation 1 Hyper-V virtual machine.

In this scenario, no Pagefile. Windows created a temporary paging file on your computer because of a problem that occurred with your paging file configuration when you started your computer.
